Pool Play Game 3: Trevecca (52-7) jumped on top with a run in the bottom half of the second inning and kept the Lubbock Christian (54-9) at bay until they scored three runs in the fourth. The Trojans scored two runs in their half of the sixth to tie the game up at three. Both teams remained scoreless until the Chaparrals scored four in the tenth. Trevecca couldn’t answer in their half and fell for the first time in pool play. LCU had 14 hits and an error while TNU had seven hits and an error. Brittiany Johnson (38-4) took the loss. Johnson pitched 9.2 innings and allowed 14 hits, seven runs, six earned, and eight walks. Johnson had three strike outs. Johnson was 2-4 at the plate with a run, RBI, and double. She now has a school record 23 doubles this season. Megan Suggs was 2-3 with a RBI, walk, and two doubles. Kacey Coonce was 1-5 with a run scored and a double.
This is the third consecutive year Trevecca has reached the softball national championships. The Trojans, ranked No. 5 in the last regular season poll, received the fourth seed in the national tournament.
The 28th Annual NAIA Softball National Championships are being played at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Ala.
Trevecca secured a NAIA National Tournament berth with their No. 5 ranking in the final NAIA Softball Poll and additionally with the Region XI Tournament Championship. It’s the second time in school history (59 in 2007) a Trojan softball team has won 50 games in a season.
