SOFTBALL: Two Wins on Day One of Click for Trevecca SoftballNAIA National Championship
DECATUR, Ala. – After overnight rain delayed the opening day of Pool Play at the 28th Annual NAIA Softball National Championship in Decatur, Ala. Trevecca posted a pair of wins on Friday. The rain pushed the entire tournament schedule back two hours on Friday. Trevecca defeated the College of Idaho 2-1 and Olivet Nazarene University 5-2.
Saturday: GM 4 - # 16 seed Friends (Kan.) University (34-8) at 6 p.m.
Trevecca is the top seed in Pool D and is joined in the pool by Lubbock Christian (#5), Olivet Nazarene (#9), College of Idaho (#17), and Friends (#16). This is the third consecutive year Trevecca has reached the softball national championships. The Trojans, ranked No. 5 in the last regular season poll, received the fourth seed in the national tournament.
The 28th Annual NAIA Softball National Championships are being played at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Ala. The 2008 tournament begins with pool play (20 teams) on May 16-17. Qualifying teams advance to the 8-team double-elimination Championship Bracket May 19-21.

Trevecca secured a NAIA National Tournament berth with their No. 5 ranking in the final NAIA Softball Poll and additionally with the Region XI Tournament Championship. It’s the second time in school history (59 in 2007) a Trojan softball team has won 50 games in a season.

27th Annual NAIA Softball National Championship Information
Game 1: Trevecca, the tournament’s No. 4 seed defeated College of Idaho 2-1 in their first game of pool play. The Trojans improved to 51-6 while C of I fell to 21-18 on the year. Trevecca pulled ahead 1-0 with a run in the top of the first inning and both teams scored a run in their half of the third. Both teams had four hits. TNU had one error and COI had two. Brittiany Johnson (37-3) allowed just four hits, one run, and didn’t allow a walk. Johnson sat 11 Yotes down on strikes. Chelsea Bailey was 2-3 with two runs scored, a walk, and stole her 47th base of the season. Neither team had a extra base hit.
Game 2: Olivet scored a run in the top of the second and each team scored a run in the fourth to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Trevecca took their first lead with two runs in the fifth and added insurance with two runs in the sixth. ONU had two hits and no errors. TNU had 13 hits, no errors and left 10 runners on base. Brittiany Johnson (38-3) allowed two hits, two runs and one walk while striking out seven Tigers. Chelsea Bailey was 1-4 with a run scored. Megan Suggs was 3-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Karli Rush was 2-3 with a run scored. Johnson was 1-2 with a double, two walks, and a run scored. Sammy Simon was 1-4 with a double and a RBI. Sara Nicholson was 1-2 with a double. The double by Johnson gives her 22 on the year and extends her school season record.
Trevecca’s schedule for Saturday is listed below. The two top teams out of each pool advance to Monday’s eight-team double elimination bracket.
