Trevecca entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed and have already earned an automatic bid to next week’s NAIA Region XI Tournament at Freed-Hardeman University. The 2008 TranSouth tournament is being played in Jackson, Tenn. at Union University’s Fesmire Field.
Brittiany Johnson (33-2) got the win with five innings of three hit ball. Johnson allowed two runs, one earned and had four strike outs. Chelsea Bailey was 1-3 with a run scored, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Kacey Coonce was 1-3 with a run scored, RBI, and a home run. Megan Suggs was 1-3 with a run scored, a double, and two RBI. Karli Rush was 1-3 with two runs scored and a RBI.
JACKSON, Tenn. - NAIA No. 5 Trevecca (47-5) defeated No. 5 seed Union University (35-20) 10-2 for their third consecutive conference tournament championship. Both teams get automatic berths to the NAIA Region XI tournament. Trevecca finished the double elimination tournament undefeated.
Union jumped out on top 2-0 in the first inning, but Trevecca answered with seven in the bottom half of the inning. Kacey Coonce hit a two-out home run to get the scoring going for the Trojans in the first. In all the Trojans sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning. Trevecca added two in the fourth and forced the 8-run rule into effect with a run in the fifth inning. Trevecca had 11 hits and two errors while Union had three hits and four errors.
