SOFTBALL: Fall 2-0 in first NAIA Region XI Championship Round Game
Click for Box ScoresHENDERSON, Tenn. - NAIA No. 5 Trevecca (49-6) fell 2-0 in the first game of the 2008 NAIA Region XI Tournament Championship Round forcing a second championship game. No. 2 seed and NAIA No. 17 Martin Methodist (45-14) forced the second game with the shutout.
Trevecca’s Brittiany Johnson (35-3) took the loss. Johnson pitched the first six innings before giving way to Stephanie Fisher in the seventh. Johnson allowed four hits, two runs, and sixth walks while striking out six. In her inning of work Fisher was perfect with two strike outs. RedHawks pitcher Sally Gale allowed just three hits and had one strike out. She didn’t allow a walk.
The RedHawks scored a run in the first and sixth innings. MMC had four hits and no errors. TNU had three hits and two errors. Megan Suggs had Trevecca’s only extra base hit with a double.
The RedHawks victory forced a second championship game and the third meeting of the day and the seventh meeting this season between the two teams.
