SOFTBALL: Advance to NAIA Region XI Championship Round

Trevecca advances to the Championship Round. Martin Methodist will face the winner of the 1 p.m. Union/Georgetown game at 3 p.m. Trevecca will face the winner of the 3 p.m. game at 5 p.m. Trevecca will only need to one win for the championship, while their opponent will need to defeat TNU twice for the title.
, Tenn. - NAIA No. 5 Trevecca (49-5) advanced to the 2008 NAIA Region XI Tournament championship round with a 6-0 win over No. 2 seed Martin Methodist (35-14) on Friday.

In the 6-0 win Brittiany Johnson (35-2) pitched a complete game shutout. The All-American allowed four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Johnson was 1-1 at the plate with three walks, a run scored and a RBI.
Sara Nicholson was 1-2 with two RBI and Chelsea Bailey was 2-4 with a run scored. Sammy Simon was 1-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
Trevecca scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and added single runs in the third and fourth innings. The Trojans closed the scoring with two runs in the fifth. Trevecca had seven hits and one error. Martin had four this and two errors.
Trevecca is the No. 1 seed in this year’s NAIA Region XI tournament and have already secured a NAIA National Tournament berth with their No. 5 ranking in the final NAIA Softball Poll on Wednesday. The Region XI Tourney is being held at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn. The tournament runs through Friday. Trevecca is the two-time defending champion.
The 27th Annual NAIA Softball National Championship will be held at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Ala. The 2008 tournament begins with pool play (20 teams) on May 16-17. Qualifying teams advance to the 8-team double-elimination Championship Bracket May 19-21.
