NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 6 Trevecca (19-3, 8-0) swept a double-header with NCAA D2 Kentucky Wesleyan (7-17) on Thursday. Both games went extra innings with the Trojans coming out on top 3-2. The first game went nine innings and the second game last eight innings.
In game one TNU scored a run in the first and Kentucky Wesleyan scored a run in the fourth. Both teams posted a run in the sixth inning. Trevecca got the winning run in the ninth. The Panthers had five hits and three errors while the Trojans had 11 hits and three errors. Brittiany Johnson (9-1) got the win in the complete game victory. The senior allowed five hits, two runs (one earned) and five walks while striking out 12. Kacey Coonce was 3-4 with a run and a RBI. Chelsea Bailey was 1-4 with a run, RBI and three stolen bases. Sara Nicholson was 2-2 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
In game two, KWC jumped ahead with two runs in the third and led until TNU scored a pair of runs in the sixth. Trevecca pushed ahead the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. The Trojans had nine hits and an error while the Panthers had five hits and an error. Stephanie Fisher (8-2) pitched all eight innings and allowed just five hits, four walks and two runs while striking out five. Cassady Critchfield was 3-3 with an RBI. Chelsea Bailey was 1-3 with two stolen bases. Brittiany Johnson was 1-3 with a triple and a RBI.
Trevecca will visit Lyon College (7-20, 6-8) on Saturday for a 3 p.m. double-header.
