Split with Union
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 4 Trevecca (26-4, 15-1) split a double-header with Union University (20-9, 11-5) on Tuesday. TNU won the first game 2-1 and saw Union take game two 4-2.
In game one Trevecca scored a run in the bottom of the first. Union scored their run in the top of the second. TNU scored the winning run in the bottom of the third. The Trojans had four hits and an error. The Bulldogs had five hits and an error. Chelsea Bailey was 2-3 and scored both of the Trojans runs. Bailey also added a stolen base. Kacey Coonce was 1-2 and drove in both runs. Brittiany Johnson (14-1) pitched a complete game and allowed just five hits, a walk, and a unearned run. Johnson had eight strike outs.
In game two Union scored three runs in the second inning to seal the victory. Trevecca scored their two runs in the fourth and Union added a run in the seventh. The Bulldogs had four hits and three errors. The Trojans had three hits and an error. No Trojan had more than one hit and Cassady Critchfield drove in both TNU runs. Critchfield was 1-3 with two RBI and a stolen base. Megan Suggs had a triple for the home team. Stephanie Fisher started the game and allowed three hits, three runs, and a walk. Fisher pitched 1.2 innings and had one strike out. Brittiany Johnson came on to pitch the final 5.1 innings and allowed a hit, a run, and four walks. She added seven strike outs.
Next, the team will resume a suspended a double-header at Martin Methodist on April 10 in Pulaski at 4 p.m. Trevecca was leading in game one 7-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning when rain stopped play. The teams will resume game one and then play game two.
