SOFTBALL: Sweep Pair @ Belhaven, Host Bethel Thursday
JACKSON, Miss. – NAIA No. 4 Trevecca (6-0, 2-0) took a pair of games at Belhaven College (13-10) in Jackson, Miss. The Trojans won the first game 9-7 and shutout the Blazers 2-0 in the second.
In game one the Trojans piled up the offense early and then had to hold on to win. TNU scored two in the first and four in the second before BC scored their first run in the third. Both teams score a pair of runs in the fifth and then Trevecca moved up 9-3 with a run in the seventh. Belhaven made things interesting with four runs in the seventh on a grand slam. Brittiany Johnson was 3-for-4 with, two doubles, a triple, a run scored and three RBI. Ashley Camp and Kacey Coonce were both 1-for-3 with a two runs scored. Coonce also had a RBI. Camp added a walk. TNU had nine runs on nine hits and one error. BC had seven runs on six hits and had four errors. Brittiany Johnson (3-0) started and pitched three innings. She walked two, allowed one run, struck out three, and didn’t allow a hit. Stephanie Fisher pitched four innings and allowed five hits, six runs (all earned), walked five and struck out two.
In game two Trevecca scored a pair of runs in the fifth and had them stand up for the victory. Trevecca scored two on three hits and had four errors. Belhaven didn’t score and had five hits and one error. Ashley Camp had one hit in three at bats and drove in the games only runs. Brittiany Johnson (4-0) pitched the complete game shutout. She allowed five hits, five walks and struck out nine.
Trevecca will host Bethel College (1-5, 1-1) for a pair of conference games on Thursday at 4 p.m.
