SOFTBALL: Sweep Georgetown College
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 4 Trevecca (2-0) opened the season against Georgetown College (0-2) on Tuesday and defeated the Tigers 6-5 in the opener and completed the double header with a 11-2 victory. Ashley Camp led the way offensively with a pair of home runs and six RBI on the day.
In game one Trevecca posted five in the bottom of the first with a pair of home runs. The Trojans added a run in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. The Tigers put a run on the board in the fifth and four in the top of the seventh. Trevecca scored six runs on six hits while Georgetown scored their five runs on six hits and had one error.
Ashley Camp hit a two-run home run as the second batter of the game. Karli Rush (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) hit the Trojans second home run later in the first. It was her first collegiate at bat. Sammy Simon had a double for Trevecca. Sara Nicholson had a pair of stolen bases while Chelsea Bailey added one. Camp was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Rusch was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Brittiany Johnson (1-0) started for Trevecca and pitched the first four innings before giving way to Shelby Mashburn who pitched 2.2 innings. Johnson came on to get the final out of the game. In all, Johnson went 4.1 innings and struck out 10 batters while walking five and didn’t allow a hit. Mashburn allowed five runs on six hits and stuck out two while walking three. Samantha Barmore (0-1) started for Georgetown, but only lasted a third of an inning. She gave up five runs on three hits and walked one.
In game two Trevecca scored a run in the first and added six runs in the second inning. Georgetown added a run in the top of the third and Trevecca answered with two in the third to pull ahead 9-1. In the fourth Georgetown scored another run and Trevecca added two more for the final score of 11-2.
Ashley Camp continued her hot bat from game one in game two. Camp went 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Camp hit her second home run of the day and also had a double. Chelsea Bailey was 1-for-3 with a triple and a stolen base. Kacey Coonce, a transfer from the University of Georgia, hit her first home run as a Trojan. Sammy Simon was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Megan Suggs was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, a RBI, a double, and a stolen base.
Stephanie Fisher (1-0) started on the mound for Trevecca and Brittney Gunther (0-1) started for Georgetown. Fisher pitched the complete game and struck out eight Tigers while allowing just four hits, three walks and two runs.
Trevecca will return to action on Saturday when they visit Bethel College (0-0) for a Noon double-header.
