CHAPEL HILL, Tenn. - The Trevecca women's golf team won the Martin Methodist RedHawk Invitational. The opening round was played in rain early that gave way to windy conditions later in the round. The second round proved to be just as difficult, but the Trojans improved their score by 20 strokes.
Trevecca completed the victory with a 336 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 692. Bethel College finished second with a (350-366) 716 and Martin Methodist rounded out the field.
Leslie Garside of Lambuth, who competed as an individual, took the medalist honors with a (81-77) 158. Trevecca’s Allison Durham, Brooke Dillehay and Alyssa Moe all made the all-tournament team. Durham (87-79) finished second (of 14 golfers), Dillehay (88-81) was third, and Moe (86-88), was fourth. Betsy Beaver posted a (93-90) to round out the Trojan golfers.
Trevecca coach Michael Johnson was proud of his team’s ability to play through the tough conditions as heavy rains have soaked the course at Henry Horton State Park. “We certainly had some weather issues to deal with on Monday, and the course took on a lot of water overnight, but this was a great tune-up for the conference and region tournaments. We feel like the team is poised to peak as we head into postseason play.”
The tournament at Henry Horton played to a par of 72 over 5,805 yards for the ladies.
The tournament was the final tune up prior to the team competing in the TranSouth Tournament (April 14-15) at the Hermitage Golf Course.
