COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Trevecca Nazarene University women’s golf team posted a 351-331 682 team-total and finished fifth place at the Lindsey Wilson Fall Invitational. The first tournament of the year for the Trojans was played at the par-72, 5,958-yard Pinewood Country Club. Six teams and 37 golfers participated in the tournament. Trevecca’s Betsy Beaver finished 8th and finished with the second best 36-hole round at Trevecca with a (82-77) 159. Her second round 77 ties the school's single best 18-hole total. Mindy Seigenthaler had a 77 during her freshman season in 2004. Seigenthaler holds the 36-hole record with a 158 that same season.
“I’m really proud of the way the ladies bounced back today after a challenging first round yesterday,” said coach Michael Johnson. “To take 20 strokes off our score from round one to round two is a pretty strong statement about the character and ability of our team. I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.”
Lindsey Wilson's Krista Burton won 69-75 144 total. Lindsey Wilson, who finished runner-up in the 2007 national tournament, won with a 298-307 605 total. Last season's No. 8 team Bethel (Ind.) College finished second at 318-298 616. Campbellsville (Ky.) University was third with a 326-333 659 and Georgetown (Ky.) College finished fourth with a 338-329 667. Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University shot 351-331 682 and University of the Cumberlands finished with a 378-377 755 to round out the six-team field.
Not only did Betsy Beaver raise her level of play on day two, so did the rest of the Trojan squad. Brooke Dillehay finished tied for 14th with a 86-80 166 while Alyssa Moe was tied for 17th with a 84-83 167 and Allison Durham posted a 99-91 190.
Trevecca will host the Lady Trojan Classic on October 8-9, 2007 at the President's Reserve in Old Hickory, Tenn. at the Hermitage Golf Course.
