WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Advance to TranSouth Semifinals Friday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 20 Trevecca (19-10) defeated Bethel College (14-16) by the score of 69-53 in a TranSouth Tournament quarterfinal game. The Trojans, the tournament's No. 4 seed, defeated the fifth seeded Wildcats for the third time this season.
Trevecca lead 9-8 with 13:59 to go in the first half when they used a 6-0 run to take a 15-8 lead with 11:31 to go. Trevecca would lead by as many as 16 points (30-14) with a 1:58 to go in the half before the Trojans would settle for a 32-17 halftime lead.
The Wildcats would cut the Trojan lead to just nine points (34-25) with 16:18 to go in the game. TNU responded with a 19-8 run that gave them a 20-point (53-33) lead with 9:02 to go. BC would get no closer than 14 points the rest of the way and the Trojans settled for a 69-53 victory.
K.C. Van Atta led Trevecca with 15 points while Jennifer Bognar (14), Mariska Reed (12) and Kristin Archie (13) also reached double figure scoring. Van Atta and Bognar led the team with nine rebounds apiece. Reed added a team high three steals and shared the team lead in assists (3) with Christian Gibson.
Trevecca will visit No. 1 and undefeated Union University (30-0) on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 7 p.m. It will be the third meeting for the Trojans and Bulldogs this season. Trevecca took Union to overtime in Nashville and had their rally come up short in Jackson on February 25th.
