WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Routs Mid-Continent, Host CU Saturday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 20 Trevecca (17-10, 11-6) defeated Mid-Continent University (9-20, 1-16) by the score of 73-37 on Thursday night.
Mid-Continent outscored Trevecca 10-4 to start the game. The Trojans took the lead for the first time in the game at 11-10 with 11:40 to go in the first half. Abby Lawson scored her 10th point of the half with 7:41 to go in the first half. The steal and basket gave Trevecca a six-point lead at 18-12. The basket was part of a 17-3 run that put Trevecca up 21-13. The Trojans would go on to lead 31-22 at the intermission.
Abby Lawson led Trevecca with 12 points in the first half. Jennifer Bognar grabbed six rebounds in the first half. Lawson also had a pair of steals and hit 6-of-8 from the field.
Trevecca outscored Mid-Continent 15-6 to start the second half and pulled ahead 46-28 with 13:18 to go in the game. Trevecca would go on to outscore Mid-Continent 42-14 in the second half for a 73-37 victory.
Abby Lawson led Trevecca with 19 points while K.C. Van Atta (16) and Jennifer Bognar (10) also scored in double-figures for Trevecca. Bognar led Trevecca with nine rebounds and Kristin Archie grabbed seven. Van Atta and Christian Gibson led the team with three assists apiece and Lawson led the visitors with three steals.
Trevecca will host its final regular season game of the year against Cumberland University (13-16, 5-12) on Saturday at 2 p.m. Trevecca's three senior women's basketball players will be honored at 1:50 p.m. prior to the tip. All fans are encouraged to wear white to the game.
