Fall Last Second Free Throws to No. 6 Freed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 19 Trevecca (12-8, 6-4) fell on a pair of last second free throws to No. 6 Freed-Hardeman (16-4, 8-2) by the score of 70-68 on Saturday.
Neither team could pull away by more than four points until the Trojans secured a 24-17 lead with 9:37 to play in the first half on a K.C. Van Atta three-point basket. Trevecca’s largest lead of the half was 37-29 at the 1:44 mark when Kristin Archie was fouled on a made field goal and added the free throw. Trevecca held a 39-34 lead at the intermission.
Freed-Hardeman gained their first lead of the second half at 49-47 with 13:40 to go. Freed held the lead until Trevecca tied the game at 61 with 3:43 to go. Trevecca scored the games next five points and held a 65-61 lead until Freed’s Tara Deathridge hit a three-point basket with 1:35 to play. FHU eventually took the lead again at 68-65 when the Trojans K.C. Van Atta hit a three-pointer to tie the game with 10 seconds remaining. Freed’s Jana Cross was fouled with 1.7 seconds remaining and buried a pair of free throws to secure the 70-68 win.
Jennifer Bognar led the team with 15 points and was joined in double figure scoring by Mariska Reed (13) and K.C. Van Atta (12). Bognar led the team with eight rebounds and Kristin Archie led the team with five assists.
Trevecca will visit No. 1 Union University (21-0, 10-0) on Thursday at 6 p.m
