Trojans Take Town and Country Showdown

LEBANON, Tenn. – NAIA No. 19 Trevecca (12-7, 6-3) defeated Cumberland University (10-11, 2-7) by the score of 76-67 on Thursday. Trevecca has beaten Cumberland six games in a row and have won eight of the last nine meetings.
Trevecca took an early lead at 6-3 with 17:07 to go, but Cumberland rallied with a 17-3 run that gave them a 20-9 lead with 11:27 to go in the first half. The Trojans responded and closed the Bulldog lead to just a point (22-21) on a Abby Lawson layup with 7:23 to go. With Cumberland leading 33-28 with 3:18 to go Trevecca regained the lead (34-33) at the half with a 6-0 run.
Trevecca added to the run at the start of the second half and led 45-39 with 14:54 to play. Cumberland closed the lead to just two points (45-43) with 12:52 to play, but the Trojans pulled away again and led 62-47 with 7:53 to play. Trevecca maintained a comfortable margin and claimed the nine point win.
Abby Lawson led Trevecca in scoring with 17 points while Mariska Reed (12), K.C. Van Atta (12), Jennifer Bognar (11), and MyRanda Wright (10) all scored in double-figures. Reed led the team with nine rebounds and Christian Gibson had seven rebounds. Kristin Archie led the team with five assists.
Trevecca will host No. 6 Freed-Hardeman (17-4, 7-2) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
