BATESVILLE, Ark. – NAIA No. 16 Trevecca (9-6, 3-2) visited Lyon College (11-5, 3-2) on Thursday and came away with the 76-61 victory.
The Lady Trojans started off sluggishly, trailing much of the first half. However, they got it going late in the half and went into the break with Lyon knotted up at 33 apiece. Jennifer Bognar led Trevecca at the half, almost coming down with a double-double with 9 points and 8 rebounds. In the second half, Bognar and the Lady Trojans would assert their will and slowly pull away from the Pipers. Trevecca went on several runs in the second half, including a 12-1 stretch to push the Lady Trojans lead to 67-48 with 4:34 to play after Kristin Archie’s pair of free throws. Coach Gary Van Atta’s girls would coast the rest of the way in to a 76-61 victory.
Bognar led all players with 20 points and 12 rebounds, her third straight double-double. K.C Van Atta (12), Abby Lawson (11), and Mariska Reed (10) all made it into double figures for TNU. Reed led Trevecca with 5 assists. The Lady Trojans, who lead the NAIA with a 1.34 assist to turnover ratio, were able to continue their success in that category with 18 assists to 11 turnovers on the night.
With the victory, Trevecca now leads the all-time series with Lyon 16-5.
Trevecca will have a week off before returning to action on Thursday, January 24 when they will visit Martin Methodist (10-7) in Pulaski, Tenn.
