WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Host #1 Union Thursday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 11 Trevecca (6-6, 0-2) fell to No. 1 Union (14-0, 3-0) by the score of 84-79 in overtime for their home conference opener. Union now leads the all-time series 24-6.
In the first half Union looked like the No. 1 in the NAIA; they pulled ahead 25-10 with 10:50 to in the first half. Trevecca closed the gap to just seven points (31-24) with 3:59 to go in the half. Union extended their again and led 43-28 at the half.
Trevecca looked like the preseason No. 4 team as the second half started. They outscored Union 21-4 and took the lead 49-47 with 14:39 to play. TNU would go on to lead by as many as 10 at 65-55 with 6:53 to play. Union rallied and held a three-point lead when Mariska Reed hit a three-pointer with seconds remaining to send the game to overtime tied at 71.
In overtime Union pulled ahead early and lead 77-71. Trevecca cut it to three on two occasions, but Union held on to win 84-79.
Jennifer Bognar had a double-double for Trevecca with 21 points and 10 rebounds. She added three blocks as well. Kristin Archie scored 20 points and had five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Mariska Reed (13) and Abby Lawson (10) also scored in double figures. Reed led the team with seven assists.
Trevecca will visit Bethel College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
