NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 4 Trevecca (1-0) defeated Temple Baptist College (0-2) 110-19 for Homecoming on Saturday. Temple Baptist, a new program, was limited to just six players due to injuries following their first game of the year on Thursday.
Trevecca opened the game strong and led 62-11 at the half and followed that up by outscoring the Rams 48-8 in the second half. Trevecca’s starters were all played 16 minutes or less in the game. Six Trojans scored in double figures. Four of those six were reserves. Kristin Archie led Trevecca in scoring while freshmen K.C. Van Atta and Jessica Spencer came off the bench to score 14 points apiece and fellow freshman Casey Pigue added 13. Mariska Reed (13) and Paige McFarlin (10) also hit double figures. Every player on the Trojan roster scored on the game and played at least 13 minutes.
As a team the Trojans hit 47-of-89 (52.8%) from the field, 10-of-32 (31.3%) from three-point range, and 6-of-7 (85.7%) from the foul line. Trevecca had 69 bench points and 51 points off of turnovers. Trevecca forced 36 turnovers with 17 steals and had 37 total assists. TNU outrebounded TBC 21-47. The Rams were 8-of-33 (24.2%) from the field, 1-of-8 (12.5%) from three-point range, and 2-of-5 (40%) from the foul line.
Trevecca was voted to finish second by the TranSouth coaches in their annual preseason poll. Trevecca's No. 4 position in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 is its highest preseason ranking in history.
Trevecca will travel to play in the Olivet Nazarene University tournament next weekend.
