MEN'S BASKETBALL: Defeat Martin Methodist, Advance to TranSouth Finals
PULASKI, Tenn. – NAIA No. 19 Trevecca (24-8) wins 87-75 over NAIA No. 11 Martin Methodist (25-7) in Pulaski, TN.
Trevecca’s Marcos Salvi came off the bench, scoring 12 points and sparked the Trevecca Trojans to a semifinal win in the TranSouth Athletic Conference tournament in Pulaski Saturday night. Salvi became the fourth member of this year’s team to surpass the 1,000 career scoring mark. He is the 35th member of the Trevecca 1,000 point club.
Trevecca took the lead for the first time at 19-17 with 9:50 to go in the first half on a Marcos Salvi three-point play. Trevecca pulled ahead 33-21 with 4:53 to go on another three-point basket by Marcos Salvi. Trevecca led 42-39 at the break, equaling their largest lead of the half.
Trevecca started the second half by extending their lead to as many as 17 points (54-31) with 18:02 to go in the game. The RedHawks would get no closer than eight points the remainder of the game and the Trojans held on for a 87-75 victory.
Brian Oduor led Trevecca with 19 points while Matthew Elliott (17), Josh Helton (17), Marcos Salvi (12) and Christopher Harris (11) all scored in double-figures. Oduor led the team with eight rebounds. Helton led Trevecca with four assists and joined Rick James with a team high two steals. Oduor also had three blocks.
Trevecca will play in the TranSouth Championship game against Lambuth University (27-3) on Tuesday, March 11 in Jackson, Tenn. at 7 p.m.
