NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 7 Trevecca (7-0) defeated the University of Michigan-Dearborn (7-7) by the score of 83-71. Trevecca was lead by Josh Helton’s career high 31 points.
Trevecca fell behind early and trailed for most of the first half. Michigan-Dearborn led 34-24 after a 9-0 run with 5:55 to go in the first half. Trevecca rallied and tied the game at 40, but Dearborn led 43-40 at the break. Trevecca came out strong to start the second half and surged ahead 58-49 to take their largest lead of the game. Dearborn closed the gap to just two points at 62-60 with 10 minutes to go. Trevecca closed the game with a 10-2 run to stave off another Dearborn rally.
Aside from Helton’s 31 points Rick James (14), Collins Onyando (14), and Marcos Salvi (12) all had double figure scoring. DeJon Everson had nine assists and eight steals. Onyando led the team with nine rebounds while Salvi had eight.
Trevecca's next games will be a pair of exhibition games in Scottsdale, Ariz. against two Canadian teams. Both games will be at 11:30 a.m. central time on December 28-29 at Scottsdale Community College. The games will not be broadcast on radio.
Trevecca will start 2008 on the road in conference play at Freed-Hardeman (January 5) and at Crichton College (January 7) before returning home to face Union University on January 10.
