MEN'S BASKETBALL: Defeats Mid-Continent, Host CU Saturday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 19 Trevecca (21-8, 13-6) defeated Mid-Continent University (10-21, 5-14) 92-89 on Thursday.
Trevecca broke a 16 all tie to pull ahead 19-16 with 12:00 to go in the first half. Mid-Continent used a 9-0 run to pull ahead 25-19 with 10:15 to go. Trevecca chipped away and tied the game at 44 with 2:43 remaining, but the Cougars answered and led 50-46 at the break. Matthew Elliot led TNU with 13 first have points. Collins Onyando had a team high six assists in the half.
Trevecca pulled ahead 63-62 with 13:14 to go in the game. Mid-Continent pulled ahead 73-72 with 9:00 to go in the game. Trevecca used a 12-0 run to gain a 84-73 lead with 2:10 remaining. Trevecca was able to hold off a furious Cougar rally for the 92-89 victory.
Matthew Elliott led Trevecca with 25 points and had four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Brian Oduor (21), Collins Onyando (12), and Rick James (10) all reached double-figure scoring. Onyando had a team high in rebounds (9), assists (8), blocks (2), and steals (4).
Trevecca will host its final regular season game of the year versus #RV Cumberland University (20-9, 13-6) on Saturday at 4 p.m. Trevecca's senior men's basketball players will be honored prior to the tip. All fans are encouraged to wear white to the game.
