BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – NAIA No. 17 Trevecca (20-7, 12-5) defeated Blue Mountain College (0-27, 0-17) by the score of 104-83 on Saturday. Blue Mountain is in its first year of men’s basketball. Trevecca has won 20 games now 12 times in the 40 years history of the program. All of the program’s 20-win seasons have come since the 1980-1981 season. This is the fourth time a Sam Harris coached team has won 20 games. Trevecca has won 20 games in three of the last four seasons.
Trevecca and Blue Mountain were tied at 26 when the Trojans started to pull away. Trevecca used a 11-2 run to take a 37-28 lead and then after another Topper basket the Trojans went on a 15-2 run to take a 52-32 lead with 1:24 to go in the half. Trevecca led 56-37 at the break. Matthew Elliot led Trevecca with 14 first half points. He also had two rebounds, three assists and three steals. He was 8-of-8 from the foul line in the first half.
Blue Mountain closed the Trojan lead to just 11 points (61-50) with an 8-0 run early in the second half. Trevecca answered with a 7-0 run to pull ahead 68-50. Trevecca was able to maintain a double-figure lead for the remainder of the game and claimed the win 104-83.
Christopher Harris led Trevecca with 18 points and was joined by Brian Oduor (17), Matthew Elliot (16), Marcos Salvi (13), Jeremy Dixon (13), and Tyler Watkins (12) with double figure scoring. Oduor and Collins Onyando had a team high eight rebounds each. Oduor added a team high two blocks. Harris led the team with five steals. Elliot had a team high four assists.
Trevecca will visit Union University (14-12, 8-8) on Monday at 8:00 p.m.
