MEN'S BASKETBALL: Fall at No. 8 Lambuth
JACKSON, Tenn. – NAIA No. 15 Trevecca (18-6, 10-4) fell at No. 8 Lambuth University (21-3, 13-2) by the score of 81-74 on Monday. The Eagles remain in sole possession of first place in the TranSouth.
Trevecca led 18-11 with 12:15 to go in the first half. Lambuth rallied and tied the game at 25 with 6:12 to go. Lambuth would take the lead on the next possession (28-25) it capped a 9-0 run that gave them the lead for the first time in the game. The Eagles led 34-30 when they used a 10-2 run to close the half and lead 44-32 at the break. The Eagles had a 33-12 run over the last 12:15 of the first half.
Trevecca scored the first six points of the second half and closed the Lambuth lead to just seven (44-38) before Lambuth pulled ahead again. Lambuth ramped up to a 15-point lead (64-49) with 10 minutes to go in the game. Trevecca whittled the lead down and five points (75-70) with 35 seconds remaining. The Eagles connected on their free throws over the final seconds to secure the season sweep of the Trojans.
Josh Helton led Trevecca with 24 points on 6-of-10 shooting from three-point range. Collins Onyando delivered his seventh double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Brian Oduor just missed the double-double category with 11 points and nine rebounds. The Trojans shot well from the field, but were hurt significantly by 21 turnovers.
Trevecca will host Bethel College (12-12, 3-11) on Thursday at 8 p.m.
