MEN'S BASKETBALL: Beat Lyon, Face No. 8 Lambuth Monday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 15 Trevecca (18-5, 10-3) defeated Lyon College (10-13, 4-9) by the score of 65-52 on Saturday. Collins Onyando just missed another double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Scots closed the Trojan lead to just two points (13-11) with 12:36 to go in the first half. Trevecca used a 16-2 run to take a 29-13 lead on a Marcos Salvi three-point field goal with 5:53 to go in the half. Lyon worked the Trevecca lead down to just seven points (34-27) ad the half. Trevecca’s Onyando had 12 first half points.
Trevecca extended their lead to 12 points (39-27) at the start of the second half on a three-pointer by Josh Helton and a bucket in the paint by Onyando. The Scots wouldn’t get any closer than five points the rest of the way. After they cut the lead to 44-39 with 12:38 to go, Trevecca pulled away again with a 12-6 run. The run gave TNU a 56-45 lead with 5:53 to go.
Trevecca will travel to Jackson, Tenn. to face No. 8 Lambuth University (20-3, 12-2) on Monday at 8:00 p.m. The Eagles are in sole possession of first place in the TranSouth.
