NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 12 Trevecca (15-4, 7-2) defeated Blue Mountain College (0-20, 0-10) by the score of 119-76 on Monday. Trojans are now in a three-way tie for first place in the TranSouth conference race. The victory was Trevecca coach Sam Harris’ 400th career win.
Will the game tied at six the Trojans began to develop some separation with the Hilltoppers. Marcos Salvi led the early scoring and his field goal with 15:57 to go in the half gave Trevecca a 16-9 lead capping a 10-3 run. The Toppers closed the gap to just six points at 26-20 with 12:25 to go. A DeJon Everson field goal gave Trevecca a 39-22 lead with 8:58 to go in the half. Trevecca would go on to lead 56-34 at the break. The Trojans poured it again in the second half and out pointed the Toppers 63-42 to claim a share of the TranSouth lead.
All 12 Trojans dressed scored in the game. Josh Helton led the team with 28 points behind 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range. Marcos Salvi, who scored 11 in the first half, ended up with 16 points and Brian Oduor posted 13. Oduor had a double-double with 12 rebounds and added four blocks. Collins Onyando had three blocks, four assists, nine points, six rebounds, and a steal. Christopher Harris had 12 assists on the night. Helton added five assists, three steals and three rebounds.
In what will be a battle for first place in the TranSouth, Trevecca will travel to Cumberland University (13-5, 7-2) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 8 p.m.
