, Ind. – NAIA No. 7 Trevecca (13-3, 5-1) fell 76-72 to Olivet Nazarene (8-11) in a game played at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.
Olivet started the game on a 9-0 run that ended when the Trojans hit their first bucket with 16:15 to go in the first half. The Trojans cut the Tigers lead down to just six points at 17-11 with 8:10 to play in the first half when ONU hit back-to-back buckets to take a 21-11 lead. Trevecca was able to cut the lead to just five points at 30-25 before Olivet closed the half with a 5-0 run to lead by 10 (35-25) at the break.
Olivet had a 8-4 run to start the second had to take a 43-29 lead. The Tigers held a 55-38 lead with ten minutes remaining. Olivet’s lead was 60-46 with 5:27 to play when Trevecca mounted a rally. Trevecca cut the lead eight (60-52) with a 6-0 run. Trevecca cut the lead to just three points (68-62) with just a minute to play, but Olivet held off the Trojans by hitting their free throws in the final minute and secured the 76-72 victory.
Olivet now leads the series 5-3. Josh Helton led Trevecca with 17 points and was joined in figures by Brian Oduor (16) and Collins Onyando (15). Marcos Salvi led the team with six rebounds. Onyando and Helton led the team with four assists.
Trevecca returns to conference play on Thursday, January 24 at 8 p.m. when they visit No. 14 Martin Methodist (14-2, 5-1) in Pulaski, Tenn. The RedHawks lead the series 17-14 between the two schools.
