MEN'S BASKETBALL: Win Close One at Lyon
BATESVILLE, Ark. – NAIA No. 7 Trevecca (13-2, 5-1) defeated Lyon (8-7, 2-3) on Thursday night 74-66.
Marcos Salvi got the Trojans jump-started offensively scoring 8 of their first 11 points in the ballgame. Finding themselves down 27-26, a three-point play from Brian Oduor gave Trevecca the lead, one which they would take into the half at 39-36. A scary moment came just before halftime when Lyon’s Matt Owens went to the floor hard, landing on the back of his head. After several quiet minutes and Owens being carted off on a stretcher, play resumed in Batesville. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Matt and we wish him a speedy recovery. At the break, Salvi had 13 points for TNU, leading all scorers.
Salvi and the Trojans held off a surging Scots team late to pull out the victory. Had the Trojans not shot 24-27 (89%) from the foul line, the end result would have surely been a different story. From the free throw line, Salvi was 5-5, leading everyone with 19 total points, and Brian Oduor was a perfect 9-9, finishing with 17 points. Josh Helton got his stroke back Thursday night also scoring 17. With the win, the Trojans showed they can win a tough conference game on the road.
The Trojans will travel to Indianapolis for a game with sister Nazarene institution Olivet Nazarene (7-10) on Saturday. The tip for the game at Conseco Field house is scheduled for 1 p.m.
