NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 8 Trevecca (11-1, 3-0) defeated No. 20 Union University (7-6, 1-2) by the score of 77-68 in the home conference opener. Trevecca ties its best record with just one loss in school history. The 2004-2005 team won 11 games before picking up their first loss. Trevecca has 6-2 versus Union in the last four years.

Trevecca led 21-19 with 11:17 to go in the first half. Union used a 11-2 run to take a 30-23 lead with 6:23 to go in the half. Trevecca chipped away over the remainder of the first half and took the lead 38-37 as the halftime buzzer sounded on a Christopher Harris layup.

Union outscored Trevecca 11-5 to start the second half to take a 48-43 lead with 14:13 to go. The Trojans used steals and fast break points to roll to a 57-48 lead with 10:10 to go. The 14-0 run put the Trojans in charge, but Union would make a final run. With Trevecca leading 70-60 with 5:11 to go, Union closed the gap to just four points (72-68) with just 3:39 to go. Trevecca began a run to the free throw line and secured the win 77-68.

Trevecca held the NAIA's leading scorer to just 10 points. Matt Neaville brought a 27.8 average into the game. He hit just 2-16 from the field and 1-14 from beyond the three-point arc. Collins Onyando and Brian Oduor led Trevecca with 17 points apiece. Onyando had a double-double with 10 rebounds and neared a triple-double with seven assists. Onyando also had a pair of blocks in the game. Josh Helton lead Trevecca with three steals and had seven rebounds. Oduor added six rebounds to his totals. Rick James (14) and Matthew Elliot (10) also reached double figure scoring. Tony Brown led Union in scoring with 20 points after hitting 4-6 from the three-point line.

Trevecca’s seniors have a career record of 79-30 (30-13 TranSouth).

Trevecca will visit Bethel College (9-3, 0-2) on Saturday with a 4 p.m. tip time.
