LEBANON, Tenn. - Trevecca (6-0) defeated Fisk University (1-4) 99-77 in the Cumberland University Rosa Stokes Memorial Classic continuing their undefeated run to start the 2007-2008 season.
Trevecca broke on top early leading 12-7 when Fisk answered with five straight to tie it at 12 at the 14:45 mark. From there the two teams traded runs as the Trojans led 29-20 with eight minutes remaining in the half, only to be answered by a 10-0 Fisk run for their first lead of the game (30-29) with 6:15 to go. TNU closed the half out in a strong way outscoring Fisk 17-4 to lead 46-34 at the half.
The second half saw a more determined defensive effort from the Trojans coupled with excellent offensive execution as Fisk could get no closer than eight points. TNU’s largest lead was 24 on two different occasions before the final 22 point margin.
Trevecca again had five players reach double figure scoring. Josh Helton led the way with 25, highlighted by 5 of 7 shooting from three point range. Joining Helton in double figures were Brian Oduor, who had a double-double night with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Collins Onyando (19), Marcos Salvi (15), and Christopher Harris (10). Matthew Elliot had six assists to lead the Trojans in that category.
As a team Trevecca was 37-62 (59.7%) from the field, 8-17 (47.1%) from beyond the 3-point arc, and 17-21 (81%) from the foul line. Trevecca won the battle of the boards 42-26 and had 24 assists as a team.
Trevecca will next face University of Michigan-Dearborn (5-4) at 4 p.m. on December 22 at home. Special group ticket packages will be available.
