NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca (3-0) completed play in the 12th annual Trojan Boosters Endowment Classic win a 87-77 victory over NAIA No. 13 University of Illinois-Springfield (2-2) on Saturday.
Trevecca started the first half strong and led by double figures, but the Prairie Stars rallied to take a four-point lead (37-33) at the break. Trevecca started the second half with an 11-0 run were able to make it stand up as they pulled off the upset 87-77.
Trevecca had three players score in double figures. Josh Helton (25), Marcos Salvi (18), and Collins Onyando (14) all scoring in double digits. Helton was all over the stats sheet with 9-of-12 shooting from the field, 6-of-8 on three-pointers, two rebounds, six assists, a block and a steal in 40 minutes of play. Other notable stats were Collins Onyando’s nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals and Matthew Elliott’s five assists and three steals.
Trevecca hit 31-of-52 (59%) from the field, 12-of-20 (60%) from 3-point land and 13-of-19 (68%) from the foul line. Meanwhile, Illinois-Springfield was 25-of-60 from the field, 4-of-18 from three point range, and hit 15-of-20 free throws.
Trevecca will play Voorhees College (3-1) at 4 p.m. on November 17 at Moore Gym.
