NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca (2-0) are hosting the annual Trojan Boosters Endowment Classic Friday and Saturday at Moore Gym. Trevecca beat Concordia-Selma (4-4) on Friday 85-74 and improve their record to 2-0 overall. Trevecca is now 4-0 all-time versus Concordia-Selma.
Trevecca started slow out of the gate trailing early to Concordia 11-4 in which they had a 9-0 run. Trevecca fought there way back to tie the score at 15 all with 11:11 to go in the first half. Concordia then rushed back with a 9-0 run of their own taking a 24-15 lead. Trevecca trailed 34-22 with 4:22 left in the first half and cut the lead down to 37-32 Concordia lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Trojans came out with a renewed energy and started the half on a 18-10 run the first six minutes of the second half taking a three point lead. Trevecca throughout the whole second half stayed steady in their attack maintaining a lead and controlling to game. The Trojans ended the game on a 13-6 run, which concluded a great second half and secured the victory.
Trevecca had three players in double digits with Josh Helton leading the way with 21 points followed by Brian Odour with 16 points, and Rick James adding 14 points of his own. Collins Onyando led the way in rebounding and blocks with 8 boards and 2 swats. Josh Helton also had 8 assists and 4 steals while DeJon Everson joined in thefts adding 7 of his own.
Trevecca’s teams totals for field goals were 44 attempts with the Trojans connecting on 28 of them, they were 4 of 15 from 3 point territory. The Trojans really shined at the free throw line tonight shooting 25 of 30 from the stripe. Total Field Goal percentage for Trevecca was 63%, three point percentage was 26 percent, and free throw percentage was 83%. Meanwhile, Concordia-Selma was 23 of 57 on field attempts, 9 of 25 from three point range, and hit 19 of 29 free throws. Trevecca dominated two aspects of the game; the Trojans outscored the Hornets 43-8 on bench scoring and 17-2 on fast break scoring. First half scoring 37-32 for Concordia and second half scoring went to Trojans 53-37.
Trevecca will face NAIA No. 13 University of Illinois-Springfield (2-1) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The third team in the classic is fellow TranSouth member #RV Martin Methodist. The 3-0 RedHawks beat UIS on Friday 70-61 and will face Concordia-Selma on Saturday at 2 p.m.
