NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca (1-0) hosted Boyce College (0-2) for Homecoming and defeated the Bulldogs 128-37. Boyce is in just their second year as a basketball program.
Trevecca led 60-19 at the break and outscored the Bulldogs 68-18 in the second half. Nine Trojans scored in double figures including five non-starters. Mt. Juliet native and Trevecca senior Josh Helton led the team with 16 points and 10 assists in 21 minutes of play. Every player on the Trojan roster scored and played at least 12 minutes. In addition to Helton’s double-double, Christopher Little produced one with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Marcos Salvi (14), Collins Onyando (12), Jeremy Dixon (12), Rick James (15), Tyler Watkins (11), and Brian Oduor (14) all scored in double figures. Dixon (Mt. Juliet) and Watkins (Dalton, Ga.) are freshmen. Matthew Elliott and Christopher Harris each just missed double figure scoring with nine points each.
As a team Trevecca shot 53-of-83 (63.9%) from the field, 13-of-24 (54.2%) from three-point range, and hit 9-of-12 (75%) from the foul line. Trevecca scored 28 on the fast break, 35 off of turnovers, and 76 points in the paint. Trevecca’s bench scored 68 points. Boyce was 15-of-61 (24.6%) from the field, 4-of-20 (20%) from three-point range, and 3-of-4 (75%) from the foul line. Trevecca outrebounded Boyce 55-20 and forced 24 turnovers with 14 steals. Trevecca had 37 total assists in the game and only nine turnovers.
Trevecca is receiving votes in the NAIA preseason Top 25. Trevecca was voted to finish fourth by the TranSouth coaches in their annual preseason poll.
Trevecca will host the annual Trojan Boosters Endowment Classic next Friday at Saturday at Moore Gym.
