BASEBALL: Take Two from Lambuth, TSAC Tourney Monday
JACKSON, Tenn. – NAIA No. 16 Trevecca (33-12, 17-3) took a pair of games and the series from Lambuth University (29-20, 15-8) by the score of 12-5 and 15-14. Trevecca put four on the board in the second inning and never trailed in game one. Lambuth scored a run in the second and both teams scored a run in the fourth. TNU added two in the fifth and LU made it a 7-5 game with three in their half of the fifth. The Trojans added three in the seventh and two in the ninth for the 12-5 final. TNU had 16 hits and an error and LU had eight hits and a error. Ross Muirhead was 2-3 with two home runs, two runs, two walks, and five RBI. Aaron Bree was 2-5 with a pair of doubles, a run, and three RBI. Wesley Griggs (9-2) pitched five innings and allowed seven hits, four earned runs, four walks and struck out three for the win.
Game two saw a wild one go the way of the Trojans 15-14. Both teams scored three runs in the first and second innings. TNU added four in the third and LU took an 11-10 lead with five in their half of the third. The game was tied again after Trevecca scored three in the fourth and Lambuth plated two in the bottom half of the fourth. Each team added a run in the fifth. Trevecca got the game winning run in the sixth. Chris Sutherland (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Trojans and Steven Brown picked up his TNU record eighth save of the season. Sutherland pitched the seventh and eighth innings and allowed just one unearned run. Brown pitched the ninth and allowed just one hit. Brian Dirheimer was 3-5 at the plate with a double, two home runs, two runs scored, and four RBI. Cody Heggie was 2-5 with a double, home run, two runs, and an RBI.
Next up, the Trojans will face Bethel College (31-15, 11-12) in the first round of the conference tournament at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. The tournament will run April 28-May 1. TNU has also secured a bid to the NAIA Region XI Tournament at Cumberland University May 6-9, 2008.
