BASEBALL: Clinch TranSouth Title @ Greer Saturday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 17 Trevecca (30-11, 15-2) defeated Mid-Continent (10-37, 0-20) 6-2 on Saturday.
The win secures TranSouth regular season conference title for Trevecca. It’s the second year in a row and the third time in four years for the Trojans to win the regular season title.
Trevecca has now won 30 games in a season six years in a row. Now in its 38th season, the Trevecca baseball program has won 30 games in a season 13 times. The program has an all-time record of 983-811-10 and Coach Collins now has a record of 74-29-1 in his second season.
Wesley Griggs (8-2) pitched six innings for the win. Griggs allowed four hits, two runs, and four walks while striking out eight. Drew Durossette (2) picked up the save with three innings of work. Durossette allowed three hits and a walk while striking out five. Brian Dirheimer was 2-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and a walk. Cody Heggie was 2-4 with a run scored, a double, and two RBI. Wade Angel was 1-4 with two RBI and a triple.
Trevecca will finish its regular season this week. On Tuesday the team will visit Campbellsville University at 2 p.m. The team will complete the regular season at Lambuth University. Thursday the teams will play a single nine-inning game and on Friday play a pair of seven-inning games starting at Noon.
The team will compete in the conference tournament April 28-May 1 in Millington, Tenn.
