BASEBALL: Defeat Covenant, Host Lindsey Wilson Wednesday @ 2 p.m.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 16 Trevecca (26-11) hosted Covenant College (5-33) on Tuesday, claiming the victory from the Scots 12-4.
Drew Durrosette (4-1) took the hill for the Trojans, tossing six innings and allowing two unearned runs while walking one and sitting down five on strikes in the victory. Ben Oliver (0-9) took the loss for Covenant, allowing eight earned runs in just three innings of work. The Scots opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, but the Trojans answered immediately, plating four runs in both the third and fourth innings to build an 8-2 lead. Trevecca added a run in the sixth inning, two in the seventh, and one in the eighth, while Covenant tallied single runs in the seventh and eighth to provide the final margin of 12-4. Chris Sutherland (4) pitched the final three innings of the game to earn the save.
Chris Lowe and Cody Heggie led the way for the Trojans offensively in the game. Lowe was 4-for-5 with a double (4), three runs scored (27), and three Runs Batted In (22); and Heggie went 2-for-3 with a double (13), a triple (4), a pair of walks, a run scored (18), and four RBI (33). Trevecca scored 12 runs on 14 hits and committed two errors, while Covenant scored four runs on nine hits and committed five errors.
Lindsey Wilson (20-24) will visit on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Trevecca will host senior day Friday at Noon. The Trojans will face Mid-Continent (9-33, 0-17) in a double-header on Friday.
