BASEBALL: Sweep Series @ Lyon
BATESVILLE, Ark. – NAIA No. 16 Trevecca (25-11, 12-2) completed a weekend series sweep at Lyon College (23-16, 7-9) with a 1-0 and 5-0 shut out wins. Wesley Griggs and Nick Shoup pitched shut outs for the Trojans.
Wesley Griggs (7-2) pitched a complete game two-hit shutout on the road at Lyon College. Griggs, a Cookeville native, saw all the offense he’d need come in the top of the sixth off the bat of Cody Heggie. Heggie, who like Griggs is a transfer from Jackson State, was 1-3 on the day with a run scored, home run, and RBI. Griggs allowed two walks and had five strike outs in the win. Trevecca had six hits in all and didn’t have an error. Lyon had two hits and no errors.
Nick Shoup (7-1) pitched a complete game shutout in game two. Shoup allowed just three hits and five walks while producing nine strike outs. The offense was spread throughout the lineup as five different Trojans scored. Ross Muirhead, Cody Heggie, and Aaron Bree all had doubles. Brett Thaler, Wade Angel, Bree, and Marty Parks all had a stolen base in the game. Thaler and Muirhead both went 2-3 on the day. Trevecca had 10 hits and one error. Lyon had three hits and two errors.
Trevecca will host Covenant College (5-32) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Lindsey Wilson (20-24) will visit on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Trevecca will host senior day Friday at Noon. The Trojans will face Mid-Continent (9-33, 0-17) in a double-header on Friday.
