BASEBALL: Take Game One @ Lyon
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 16 Trevecca (23-11, 10-2) returned to conference play with a 15-5 eight inning win to start the weekend series at Lyon College (23-14, 7-7). Trevecca was paced by Nashville Overton product Ben Johnson’s 10 strike out performance on the mound and Brian Dirheimer’s 4-5 day at the plate.
Trevecca maintained their first place standing in the TranSouth conference with a 15-5 win at Lyon College. Trevecca scored four in the first and saw Lyon add a run in the bottom half of the inning. Trevecca added two more runs in the second and fourth inning to take a 8-1 lead. The Scots added a run in their half of the fourth. TNU expanded their lead to 11-2 with three in the top of the sixth. LC closed the game to 11-5 with three in the seventh. Trevecca forced the 10-run rule with four in the top of the eighth inning.
Ben Johnson (2-4) started and picked up the win for Trevecca. Johnson, a freshman from Overton High School in Nashville, lasted 6.2 innings and allowed six hits, five runs, five walks, and had 10 strike outs. Brent Amburn pitched the final 1.1 innings in perfect fashion. He had two strike outs.
Brian Dirheimer, a transfer from Columbia State, was 4-5 with two runs scored, two doubles, a home run and four RBI. Cody Heggie was 2-5 with a run scored, a home run, and four RBI. Marty Parks was 2-5 with three runs scored, a double and a stolen base. Chris Lowe was 2-4 with two walks, four runs scored, two RBI, a double, and a home run. Wade Angel was 1-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and two stolen bases.
The teams will play a pair of seven-inning games on Saturday starting at Noon.
