BASEBALL: Outslug Crichton 14-11
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 6 Trevecca (17-7, 5-1) hosted Crichton (13-14, 4-4) for the first of a three-game TranSouth series on Friday, taking the ballgame 14-11.
Nick Shoup (5-0) took the ball for the Trojans and earned the win, tossing six innings of four hit ball, allowing five earned runs on five walks and striking out six. The Trojans scored three runs in each of four different innings, the firs, third, fifth, and sixth to build a 12-3 lead. Crichton answered with seven runs in the top of the seventh inning, cutting the lead to 12-10, but that’s as close as it would get. Trevecca scored a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning and Steven Brown nailed down his sixth save of the season, tying the single season record held by himself (2007) and Chris Fowler (2006).
Offensively, Cody Heggie and Aaron Bree led the way for the Trojans. Heggie was 3-for-4 in the game with a double (10), a triple (3), a run scored (12), and three RBI (18). Bree went 3-for-4 with two doubles (10), a stolen base (2), four runs scored (23) and two RBI (17). Trevecca scored 14 runs on 15 hits and played errorless defense, while Crichton scored 11 run on 13 hits and committed one error.
The teams will wrap the series up with a double-header at Noon on Saturday.
