BASEBALL: Defeat No. 24 Campbellsville
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 17 Trevecca (7-2) defeated No. 24 Campbellsville University (1-1) on Wednesday by the score of 4-1.
Trevecca starting pitcher Wesley Griggs (1-1) lasted 6.1 innings and picked up the win for Trevecca. Steven Brown got his second save of the season after pitching the ninth inning. Offensively Trevecca was paced by Cody Heggie who was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Heggie had a 2-run first inning home run, his second of the year, and later added a double. Trevecca had four stolen bases on the day. Marty Parks had two while Wade Angle and Chris Lowe each had a steal.
Trevecca scored three in the first and each team tallied a run in the third. Trevecca scored four runs on three hits while Campbellsville scored their run on six hits and committed three errors. Griggs allowed six hits, four walks and one run while striking out six Tigers. Drew Durossette pitched 1.1 inning for Trevecca and didn’t allow a hit while getting one strike out. Brown was perfect in his inning of work and had a strike out for the win.
Eric Staples (0-1) took the loss for the Tigers. He lasted three innings and gave up all four runs, three of which were earned.
Trevecca will host Bethel College (0-0) of Indiana on Friday for a single 9-inning game. The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday starting at Noon. This is a change from the original schedule.
